American Builders & Inspectors Academy

We understand that CE is something new for many general contractors.  Let us answer your questions here.

General CE Questions

Does the Academy offer In-Person Courses?

You bet we do?  We love the interaction and excitement that the In-Person format affords. Our course attendees are engaged from the beginning of the course and everyone participates in the learning process. The result:  a CE experience that is NOT boring.

Why CE Courses by American Builders & Inspectors Academy are NOT Boring?

Here at the American Builders & Inspectors Academy, we provide a CE experience that is anything but boring.  All of our CE attendees, in both the In-Person and Virtual formats are engaged in the class.  Everyone participates in the course material: answering questions, contributing to group discussion and polishing their problem-solving skills.  There is just no time to get bored because those 8 hours fly by.  You experience enough pressure and frustration in your day job so we do not want to contribute to that burden.  We provide an enjoyable experience CE that is, dare we say, fun and will stimulate you to sharpen your problem-skills.

Check out the testimonials from your fellow general contractors.

When do I need to complete my annual CE courses?

The deadline for completing your annual CE courses (2 hour NCLBGC Mandatory course and 6 hours of elective courses) is November 30th  every year.

What if I don’t finish all of my CE courses hours before the deadline?

If you miss this deadline, there will be a short window (January-March) in which you can take these courses to remedy the delinquency, but there are financial penalties (due to the NBLBGC).  You will still be responsible for taking the CE courses in the new calendar year.

Virtual/Live-Online CE Questions

What are virtual CE classes?

Virtual CE courses are those taught live in real time by way of an internet connection.  This type of learning format is also called synchronous distance learning (SDL) or Live-Online.   Our Academy uses ZOOM as a platform for our SDL classes.

How do I use Zoom?

How do I access the virtual/SDL class?

When you register for one of our virtual or SDL classes, your receipt will state that you will receive an email reminder about one week before the class that will contain important information about accessing the CE course (by ZOOM meeting).  That email will contain the active link that will allow you to join the CE course on the day(s) of the CE course.

How do your virtual/SDL CE courses work?

The American Builders & Inspectors Academy believes that CE should not be boring. Our goal is to help you polish your problem-solving skills.  Our In-Person format is directly transferable to the our SDL format.  In short, CE attendees participate in and are engaged in our courses, regardless of delivery format.    Our SDL class sizes are limited to a manageable size (max 25 of attendees per class) in order to achieve an optimal Instructor : Attendee ratio.

Our SDL courses are typically presented  for 8hr (0am -5pm) on  one day to be able to complete the CE requirement in a single day.

What are the computer requirements needed to attend a virtual/SDL CE course?

We abide by the NCLBGC regulations for the conduct of virtual CE course. These regulations state that cell phones may NOT be used to connect to a CE course, attendees must use a computer or tablet and a have a stable internet connection.

                Specific technical requirements are:

System requirements:

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
  • Speakers and a microphone – built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth
  • A webcam or HD webcam - built-in, USB plug-in

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows 11 (version 5.9.0 or higher)
  • Windows 10 (Windows 10 Home, Pro, or Enterprise)

Qualifier ID Info

What is a Qualifier?

A qualifier is a responsible managing employee, owner, officer, or member of an LLC or partnership who successfully completes the examination required for licensing.”   The qualifier ID (QID) is the unique number assigned by the NCLBGC to a Qualifier.  The QID is different from your general contractor license number.

Where do I find my Qualifier ID number?

Go to the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors. Use this link:  https://nclbgc.org/qualifier-search/

Type your full name in the Qualifier Name box .  Select your name from the returned results.   Verify your information by clicking on Details.  Record  the QID associated with your Qualifier name.

How does the NC LB for GC know I completed my CE classes?

Within a day or two of completion of your CE courses with our Academy, we report that completion status to the NCLBGC and pay required fees for our CE service. These are the reasons that it is essential that you know and provide your Qualifier ID to us so that we can accurately report your CE credit completion.   Please be aware that you, as the Qualifier, are still responsible for completing the annual GC license renewal process.
